| Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE)
- Enables set-based, generative product design
- Allows engineers to make greatest use of their domain knowledge throughout product development
- Facilitates predictive engineering for design exploration

| The design process involves a number of tools that are traditionally used as separate pieces (i.e. DOE, FEM/meshing, CFD, ergonomic studies, spreadsheets, reference tables ...) in a relatively serial process. A Knowledge Engineering Application is created to bring all of these disparate parts together and automate the triggers that control each process. With this application, much of the burden is shifted from the engineers/analysts to the CPU, the cycle time is significantly reduced, and the design can be truly optimized. |
| The primary tool used is AML (Adaptive Modeling Language). AML allows Leading Edge to create custom applications for specific design solutions. Depending on the project, we can link a variety of tools. These include, but are not limited to: Flex Body Dynamics, Kinematic Analysis, FE Meshing, Structural Analysis, CFD, Hydraulic Cylinder Sizing, Product Configuration, Cost Analysis, Pin and Bearing Design, and Tolerance Analysis. Solutions that have been created or proposed include: roll over protection system (ROPS) design and analysis, high level
vehicle concepts, HVAC design, glass furnace configuration and many others. |
